Focused on Career Building, Adult Literacy and Life Long Learning.
 
This is an official Training Institute recognized by the Department of Education, Culture and Employment of the Government of the Northwest Territories.  It offers a program from September to June in Yellowknife.  This includes adult basic education, literacy training, life skills training, leadership training and practical assistance.
 



Courses / Training

Pre-Employment and Adult Literacy Programs:
  • Courses are recognized by Aurora College.
  • Lead to successful completion of grade 12 or trade entrance exam.

    Other courses include:

  • Introductory and Advanced Computer.
  • Career Life/Work 120/130/140.
  • English 110-150.
  • Mathematics 110-140.
  • Science 120/130.
  • Health/Exercise.
  • Work Experience (4 Weeks).
Semester Dates:
1st Semester: September to January
2nd Semester: February to June

Enrolling in a full 10 month program is recommended.

Who can apply:
Persons 17 years of age or older are welcome to the Native Women's Association Training Centre which include male and female, aborginal and non-aboriginal.

How to apply:
Step 1.
Pick up an application form from the Native Women's Association or download the application form here in Microsoft Word Format or Adobe PDF Format.  This application can also be faxed to you.  Fill out the application form and send it in prior to July 15th for the first semester and November 15th for the second semester.

Step 2.
Make an appointment for an interview with the Training Centre Coordinator.  Once the interview is complete, you should receive a letter letting you know if you have been accepted and how to proceed with making an appointment for the placement testing.

Step 3.
If you are accepted, funding arrangements to be able to pay for the costs need to be arranged.  The Aboriginal Human Resource Development Program at the Native Women's Association may help you.

Step 4.
Attend placement testing appointments.
